Talks: Talks will be 15 minutes, with 5 minutes to allow for questions/switch over.

Eating in Down Town Cairo

Down Town Cairo (around the conference venue) is rich with restaurants ranging from simple traditional meals, to fancy upscale dining spots. Here are some of our recommendations:

• Estoril and the Greek Club: Historic pubs where you can get a drink and mezzes/main courses. Chicken liver, and white cheese with tomatoes are crowd favourites.
• Felfela and Gad: Offer old school traditional Egyptian foods, including fava beans and taameya (falafel).
• Cinema Radio: This newly renovated historic venue boasts multiple cafes and restaurants, including Almeria, which offers scrumptious Mediterranean/Egyptian/Lebanese cuisine.
• Nabarawi Street: Multiple traditional cafes that offer tea, coffee, and shisha can be found around this area.
• Bellies-en-route: Offer fantastic food tours in Down Town Cairo, and are highly recommended.

Otherwise, you can find plenty of Shawerma shops, bakeries, and other restaurants lining the streets of Down Town Cairo. Feel free to explore day or night!

Exploring Cairo

Down Town Cairo is the heart of an expanding city. It is a historic district developed by Khedive Ismail in the 1860s to modernize Cairo. The streets are lined with a range of architectural style, including art deco, art nouveau, gothic, modernist, and socialist architecture. Today, it is a protected heritage zone undergoing extensive restoration.

Down Town is safe to stroll by foot day or night, although like in other big metropolosises, one is advised to exercise caution in regards to swindlers, pickpockets, and also while walking late at night.

Getting around Cairo is easy by Uber or Careem (ride sharing options), as well as the Metro system. You can also hail a taxi off the street, but you must agree on a price before getting in (and keep your eye out on Google maps to make sure you are heading in the correct direction)
